On creativity: a legendary genius speaks
🚙 Audiobooks for the road on Fiction(less) Friday
Apologies for the flurry of emails lately as I get organized—going forward we’ll stick to just Fridays, for my sanity and yours.
By the time you read this, I’ll be somewhere on the long desolate road between ABQ and Austin, TX visiting family with the dogs. To pack that time with value, I’ll either be taking a 12-hour audio stroll with Alexander the Great, via Dan Carlin’s podcast series Mania For Subjugation…
Or I’ll be juicing my creative spirit with a second audiobook listen to Rick Rubin—famed music producer & creative genius—assuring me most mellowly that The Creative Act [is nothing short of] A Way of Being, and I’m doing right by my soul (and the universe itself) in pursuit of understanding myself and my world through my craft.
The Creative Act: A Way of Being – Rick Rubin
According to Rick Rubin, everyone is engaging in the creative act—whether artist, janitor, doctor, accountant, or whatever it is that you do.
With that understood, he offers some simple ideas, mindset shifts, and process steps—distilled from long impressive experience & high-stakes study—for how to expand the creative notion into the corners of your life & practice, to motivate progress and find joy in the doing.
Whatever type of project or growth trajectory you’re working on, this book will make you feel uplifted and emboldened, ready to face any challenges with warrior-poet vigor and aplomb.
Anyway this one’s going in my reread/listen as needed file…check it out here.
